We are so inspired by the work that Planned Parenthood does to empower and help women! Please read about their mission below:
Planned Parenthood Federation of America Mission Statement: A Reason for Being
Planned Parenthood believes in the fundamental right of each individual, throughout the world, to manage his or her fertility, regardless of the individual's income, marital status, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, national origin, or residence. They believe that respect and value for diversity in all aspects of our organization are essential to our well-being. They believe that reproductive self-determination must be voluntary and preserve the individual's right to privacy. They further believe that such self-determination will contribute to an enhancement of the quality of life and strong family relationships.
-Based on these beliefs, and reflecting the diverse communities within which they operate, the mission of Planned Parenthood is
-to provide comprehensive reproductive and complementary health care services in settings which preserve and protect the essential privacy and rights of each individual
-to advocate public policies which guarantee these rights and ensure access to such services
-to provide educational programs which enhance understanding of individual and societal implications of human sexuality
-to promote research and the advancement of technology in reproductive health care and encourage understanding of their inherent bioethical, behavioral, and social implications
Planned Parenthood is gearing up for the fight of its life. Federal funding for Planned Parenthood will be one of the first targets of the current Congress and incoming administration. It’s a fight that many believe will set a precedent for other social justice and civil rights issues. Planned Parenthood affiliates operate 650 health centers that serve 2.5 million patients across all 50 states, with an additional 1 million reached in 12 focus countries globally. An estimated one in five women in the U.S. has visited a Planned Parenthood health center. This threat is about more than just access to safe and legal abortion—Planned Parenthood provides health care, and that means every year it provides essential services such as:
• More than 4.2 million tests and treatments for sexually transmitted infections
• Family planning and contraception services for 2 million people, and
• More than 360,000 lifesaving breast exams.
Seventy-five percent of Planned Parenthood’s patients live with incomes equal to or less than 150 percent of the federal poverty level—the equivalent of $36,375 a year for a family of four.
Beyond health care, Planned Parenthood does so many things: It’s the nation’s most trusted provider of quality sexual and reproductive health education. It’s an advocacy organization working to protect reproductive rights and guarantee access to quality, affordable care; and it’s a global health entity, supporting women’s rights in developing countries around the world. We cannot take this for granted. Together we can help ensure that this one hundred year old institution provides another century of care.
